Clay Anthracite Media
Acqua Bella recommends OILSORB EC-100 as a pre-carbon
filter media to remove oily residues and sheens from influent water streams. Due
to its high adsorptive capacity and low pressure drop, this media will increase
the life of your carbon filter.
OILSORB EC-IOO is a granular, organically modified clay filtration/absorption
media for water treat ment. A blend of anthracite and bentonite clay impregnated with a quaternary amine, OILSORB EC-IOO removes mechanically emulsified oil and grease, free oil and high molecular weight organic molecules. And it does it efficiently, absorbing 50% of its own weight in oil.
A cost saving filtration media
OILSORB EC-I 00 is a highly versatile and effective absorption/filtration medium that can be used in a pre-treatment, post-treatment, or stand-alone process. For example, when used as a pre-treatment
to activated carbon in applications involving oil and grease removal, OILSORB EC-IOO removes the oil and grease effectively allowing the activated carbon to remove the soluble organic compounds more efficiently. Pre-treatment with OILSORB EC-IOO also can extend the life of activated carbon, often reducing the overall water treatment costs significantly.
Increases the efficiency of the treatment process
The quarternary amine treated clay pellets in OILSORB EC-l 00 have the ability to capture 50-60% of their weight in oil, grease and other low solubility organic compounds. Used upstream from activated carbon or downstream of other oil removal processes, OILSORB EC-I 00 can often optimize the overall system performance and reduce overall costs.
Spent Media Disposal is Easy
Disposal options are dependent upon the classification
of the organics adsorbed. Spent medium can be land filled, land farmed, incinerated, bioremediated, or blended as a
fuel source for firing in cement kilns. Spent OILSORB
EC-IOO has a fuel value of up to
18,000
BTU/lb, depending on the fuel value of the adsorbed
organics.
Spent OILSORB EC-l 00 can be placed into a dumpster or land filled if it passes the liquid paint filtration test. If
it includes hazardous organics that exceed discharge standards, local regulations apply.
Acqua Bella will arrange disposal of spent non hazardous clay media for a fee.
Waste profiling must be completed before arrangements are made. See spent media
profile.

Capacity of OILSORB EC-IOO
One cubic foot of carbon weighs 30# and offers a capacity of approximately 5% by weight. By extension, one cubic foot of carbon will extract 1.5# of contaminant.
One cubic foot of OILS ORB EC-lOO weighs 55# with a 60% loading capacity. One cube of OILS ORB EC- 100 extracts 33# of contaminant.
OILSORB EC-1 00 then offers 20 times the capacity of carbon by volume!
